A Guide for Renewal Credit

Earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs)In order to obtain CEUs for 2005 and beyond, be sure to read the CEU brochure prepared by the Staffing Department Human Resource Division and the Office of Professional Development Academic Improvement Division.  After August 1, 2005, CEU credit will not be given without prior approval.  Note the following important points regarding renewal credits:

  • You must have prior approval for any workshop to receive credit.  CEU credit cannot be awarded for any course with less than 6 hours of instruction.  CEUs are only granted for up to 6 hours of staff development per day.
  • Credit cannot be offered for instructors teaching a workshop, for leadership committee meetings, for accreditation committees or for workshops offered during planning periods.
  • For GCS and site-based courses, the instructor is responsible for obtaining prior approval.  The instructor is also responsible for marking attendance and turning in signed rosters to Zelia Frick.
  • Participants must register for approved GCS/site based courses. Any person who attends a course, but does not register before the last day of the course, will not receive CEU credit.
  • For non-GCS events, individuals must submit an Event Request three weeks prior to the beginning of the event.  Also, allow two to three weeks for an approval to be returned to you.  (Conferences, college classes, on-line courses and Teacher Academy are examples of classes that would need prior approval.)
  • After you have completed your non-GCS event class, you must go to the Professional Development Website and logon.  Select Event Request, select the approved event you have completed and click the “I Have Completed This Event” button.
  • Check your transcript periodically!  This can be accessed through the Professional Development Website.  After you log on, click on View Transcript.  Participants should contact the Instructor if they have not received appropriate CEU credit.

Persons with questions concerning licensure renewal should contact the Office of Staffing Department at 378-8806.  Persons with questions concerning the renewal credit approval process should contact the Office of Professional Development at 370-8010.
